Avalon.ph Online Shopping and Auctions
Avalon.ph is one of the longest running online shopping website in the Philippines. The website, or at least its first incarnation on Fortunecity.com (a free webhost, 1st version) started around Feb 1999 as an online auction "offline" site. Back then, updates were actually made through e-mails. Technically speaking, back in Feb 1999 we are the 2nd Philippine Internet Auction website (Subasta.com, the very 1st RP Internet Auction website, closed already).
On June 1999, the site moved to Hypermart.net (another free webhost, 2nd version) with a full cgi script running a real-time auction website. The site eventually got its first domain when dotPH started offering the flat ph account, the '3rd version' - eAuctions.ph.
The website expanded to a full-featured Internet auction website (4th version) back in 2000 and was successful in running a very active auction community. We put together people who share the same interest and passion, concentrating on collectibles, toys (action figures) and books.
Due to an issue with the software (the software company folded along with the website's developer), the site underwent another incarnation (5th version, early 2001), temporarily reverting back to a cgi script.
After a few months, the new domain name Avalon.ph started its operation (April 2001, 6th version). For nine long years it has niche itself in providing primarily used, overstock and collectible books.
On May 2008 Avalon.ph has integrated with a full-featured shopping cart. The new Avalon.ph (7th version) is here.
Seven different versions in nine years, from 1999 to 2008. What impressed me is that I still have customers who first used Avalon.ph (at least the 2nd version) from 1999! Not that I expected them to stop patronizing the site, but having loyal customers for nine long years means you are doing something right.
To all the people I met, friends I made, thank you very much for your never-ending support. Nine years and going strong. I never doubted, and you made this possible.
